a spark, some lights, and maybe even a kiss.

She wants to be that girl that people admire, the one that when someone speaks her name it's always followed with a, "She's so pretty, she's so talented, or she's so funny." She wants to be the one that everyone's after, the one that people know as kind and caring, the one that lives a life that will always be remembered. It's not that she isn't content with her life, she just wishes she could be someone else for a moment, because her current self doesn't seem to be good enough for anyone...not even herself.
As the blank black canvas above splattered with light, she just wanted a boy to pull her in his arms, kiss her hard, and let her know that she was that girl. But naturally that wasn't the case. So the clock struck 12 and she still stood there alone, alone and cold, and starred into the heavens wishing that one day she could be that girl and one day she would find that boy. But for now she'd have to live with the person she is and maybe she could someday change that, but until then it's just her and some fireworks that temporarily penetrate the dark, some fake celebration that never really lasts, some lousy resolutions that finish faster than they started, and some made-up hype over stupid New Year's kisses.

....

At least that's what she thought until approximately 12:04. It was then she found herself sitting next to her best friend, (newly renewed best friend to be exact) sitting next to him, all alone, on a swinging bench, watching the fireworks in the freezing cold. The cold initiated the cuddle. And the words seemed to slip out, "What would you do if I kissed you right now?"... "I wouldn't mind at all" he replied. So their lips met, and while the sky illuminated above, so did her heart. She didn't have to be 'that' girl. She could just be herself, and that was enough. Her awkward, loud, obnoxious, quirkiness--it's who she is. And if nothing else, at least she started 2014 off knowing that, and with that she knew it would be a fantastic year.

The lights might fade, the celebrations settle, the moments disappear, but the memories are forever.  And sometimes, if you're lucky, the taste even lingers.
